Healthy Breakfast Idea and Recipe

Palak Puri :



Ingredients :

  • Wheat flour
  • Palak
  • Salt
  • Oil




Method:




  • First boil spinach and then once it is cooled grind it into a paste 
  • Make a soft smooth dough by mixing all the ingredients and some water as per requirement. Make sure that the dough is firm and tight & not too watery. Otherwise it will be difficult to roll out puris
  • Keep aside the dough for 10 min.                       
  • Knead the dough again for a minute and then divide the dough into equal sized small balls
  • Heat the oil in a  kadai and fry each of the puris on both sides till golden and crisp.

Palak Puri is ready. Severe hot with potato and peas curry.

Here is the a very easy recipe for potato and peas curry :

Ingredient 
  • Potato ( large 2 or 3 , small 4 to 5)
  • Peas ( half cup )
  • Onion ( 1 )
  • Tomato ( 1 )
  • Green chilly (1 or 2 )
  • Pepper (1 tsp)
  • Red chilly powder ( 1 tsp )
  • Turmeric powder ( 1/4 tsp )
  • Garam masala (1/2 tsp)
  • Oil (1tsp)
  • Coriander ( chopped)
  • Salt to taste 
Method : 
  • Boil potato, onion, tomato, peas ,green chilly with chilly powder ,turmeric powder and salt . 
  • Once it is boiled add pepper powder garam masala and cook it for two min. Then and add 1tsp oil and chopped coriander to it.

  • Severe hot with puri and chapathi




Tips : If you don't like puri you can make chapati with the same dough. I make palak chapathi for my husband as he is very health conscious :) 







Health benefits of palak:
  • Spinach is a rich source of vitamin A and reduces the risk of eye diseases, like night blindness, Itching eyes and eye ulcers.
  • Spinach is also rich in potassium and low in sodiumTherefore, spinach, included in a regular diet brings the blood pressure down to normal levels. 
  • Another important mineral, iron, which is found abundantly in spinach, is known to reproduce red blood cells, thereby preventing chances of anemia. The same iron is also useful for boosting the body’s metabolism, leading to more fat burning and giving way to reduce weight.
  • It is advisable for pregnant women to include spinach in their regular diet as folate found in it is needed by the growing fetus for development of a new nervous system. Also, vitamin A present in spinach is required for the lung development of the fetus as well as during breast feeding.
  • Spinach are awesome for dental health too
Spinach storage tips :
  • Fresh spinach can be stored in the refrigerator at 2-5 degrees C for 2-3 days and should be consumed within that period.
  • Don’t wash the spinach before storing in the refrigerator as exposure to water encourages spoilage. Place it in a plastic bag before putting it in the refrigerator.
  • Store spinach away from other fruits and vegetables as it is ethylene sensitive and may turn bitter in taste.
  • Spinach can also be frozen and kept fresh for 8 months but make sure to blanch it for 2-3 minutes before putting it into the freezer
