Fish Molee




Fish Molee or Fish moolie is a  Kerala dish which is cooked in coconut milk based gravy. The word Molee means stew

Molee is a preparation where in fish is semi fried and then cooked in coconut milk and a very low spiced flavor masala is added in so that flavor of the fish dominates the taste of the curry.

INGREDIENTS
  1. Fish washed and cleaned 1/2 kg ( pref fry pieces ) 
  2. Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  3. Chilly powder 1 tsp
  4. Tamarind Paste 1/4 cup
  5. Coconut milk 1 cup ( first milk and second milk )
  6. Pepper powder 1 tbsp
  7. Onion 1 small
  8. Tomato 1 small
  9. Green chilly 1 slit in the middle
  10. Ginger & Garlic 1 tsp chopped
  11. Salt as required
  12. Coconut oil 1 tbsp
  13. Curry leaves handful
METHOD
  1. Marinate the fish with chilly powder, turmeric and salt and keep aside for 30 mins
  2. Semi fry the fish in a pan , do not over-fry them
  3. Take a clay pot or a pan, add in onions, tomato,ginger garlic, green chilies, tamarind paste , chili powder, turmeric and salt and cook for 5 mins
  4. Once onions and tomatoes are cooked add in the second coconut milk and pepper powder and cook for 2 to 3 mins
  5. To that add in the fried fish pieces and cook for 3 to 4 mins
  6. Finally add in the second coconut milk and cook for a min drizzle some coconut oil and curry leaves and turn off the stove  ( once first coconut milk is added do not boil the gravy )
Recommended serving with hot with Rice or Chapati
