CHEMEEN MOOLESHYAM /MULKITTATHU

A Typical Malabar Fish Curry. it is usually made most of the days at our home. Simple and tasty. it goes well with Rice, Dosa, Chapathi, Puttu etc. Here is the recipe for chemeen /prawns mooleshyam. you can use other fish as well with the same recipe

INGREDIENTS
  • Prawns 300 gram   
  • Onions 1 small
  • Tomato 1 nos
  • Green chili 1 nos slit
  • Ginger & Garlic 1 tsp crushed
  • Tamarind paste 1/4 cup
  • Chili powder 1 tbsp ( you can use kashmiri chili 1/2 tbsp + 1/2 spicy chili powder)
  • Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  • Water 1 cup
  • Salt as required
  • Coconut oil 1 tbsp
  • Curry leaves handful
METHOD:
  • Firstly soak tamarind in water before 30 mins of cooking
  • Take a clay pot ( best if available otherwise use normal pot )
  • Add onions, tomato, green chili, ginger , garlic , turmeric powder, chili powder , salt and 1/2 cup water  
  • Allow it to boil for 5 mins
  • Once the onions & tomatoes are half cook,
  •  Add in tamarind paste and cook for another 2 to 3 mins
  • To this add prawns and cook till its done it might take around 6 to 8 mins
  • You have to reduce the gravy almost 3/4 ( thick gravy always tastes best )
  • Finally drizzle coconut oil and add in curry leaves and turn of the stove
  • Let it rest in the same pot for around 5 mins and then serve
Best served with Rice.
