SIMPLE DAL TADKA / ONE POT METHOD / PRESSURE COOKER DAL TADKA

 Dal Tadka is a basic Indian dish made by cooking lentils with spices. Dal is super comforting and makes a great meal with rice or rotis. Dal is usually prepared with  tur, or yellow lentils or pigeon pea lentils. You can also use masoor dal (pink or orange lentils) or moong dal (mung lentils) to make this recipe.
Dal is not thin and usually has a medium to a thick consistency. You can adjust the amount of water you want when you prepare it.
This is one pot recipe where all the ingredients are cooked together in a pressure cooker
Quick & Easy 

INGREDIENTS                                                  
  • ½ cup tuvar dal (arhar dal, pigeon pea lentils) or half-half of tuvar dal and masoor dal
  • 1.5 cups water 
  • 1 medium sized onion, finely chopped 
  • 1 medium sized tomato, finely chopped 
  • Garlic pods 2 to 3 
  • Chilli powder 1 tsp
  • Turmeric Powder 1/2 tsp
  • Salt as required
  • Coriander leaves 
FOR TADKA
  • Cumin seeds 1 tsp
  • Dry red Chili 1
  • Garlic pods 2 nos
  • Oil / Ghee 1 tsp
METHOD
  • In a pressure cooker add dal, onions, tomato,garlic, red chili powder,turmeric powder
  • Cook for 4 to 5 whistles
  • Once the cooker is opened slightly Mash everything well. 
  • Add salt at this point ( do not add salt while boiling dal )
  • Heat oil in a pan once oil is hot add in cumin seeds
  • Once cumin seeds splatters add garlic pods and  dry red chili  and saute for a min
  • Add tadka to dal 
  • Serve it hot with rice or roti
